Looking forward to another fantastic year
Congratulations to our incoming Medicine Class of 2019. All of your hard work has paid off and on behalf of everybody at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, welcome. We are very excited to have such an extraordinary group join us for the upcoming four years.
The summer has afforded many of our students with some well-deserved time off, however, that didn’t stop any of us from keeping busy. A few students undertook research projects locally after receiving funding from the Schulich Research Opportunities Program. While others took their talents across the nation and even internationally with clinical elective and research work all the way in Kenya, Hungary, and China.
During the past few weeks, the Medicine Class of 2019 experienced the inaugural White Coat Ceremony in Alumni Hall, followed by a week full of activities organized by faculty and members of the Medicine Class of 2018. Medical Foundations Week activities included many socials, a formal, a Port Stanley visit, and Community Day providing a glimpse of what Southwestern Ontario has to offer. Additionally, the Medicine Class of 2019, will have the opportunity to participate in the Ontario Medical Students’ Weekend later this semester.
As always, the upcoming semester proves to be full of exciting events for our medical students. This year we are extremely proud to be hosting the first ever satellite campus Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) Annual General Meeting in Windsor.
This is a wonderful opportunity for Schulich Medicine & Dentistry to expand its voice within the CFMS and to show Canadian medical students what our wonderful city has to offer.
The upcoming academic year will feature opportunities for all students. The Medicine Class of 2017, will take the next exciting step toward their medical degrees with full-time hospital work as clerks. The Medicine Class of 2016, will be putting their clinical skills on display throughout their national electives, and the Medicine Classes of 2018 and 2019, will be engaged in classroom learning in the Dr. Murray O’Neil Medical Education Centre.
At Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, we are very lucky to have a collective composed of dedicated faculty, community members, physicians, health care professionals and students working toward the common goal of an outstanding medical program.
Every year, in Windsor, we develop and improve countless academic and extra-curricular initiatives, and I eagerly look forward to what we can accomplish this year. I hope to work alongside each of you toward this goal and will always be available to discuss ideas, concerns, or questions regarding your experience at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry.
I look forward to another fantastic year with all of you.
