Message from Yousif Atwan - VP Windsor, Hippocratic Council 2014-15
Hello Schulich Medicine – Windsor Program,
What a semester it has been.
It was not too long ago that the Class of 2018 was enjoying a Beach Day during their Orientation Week, and now the chilly winter season is creeping upon us with a dose of cheery holiday spirit.
The semester began with various social events welcoming and integrating the Class of 2018 with all other classes at the Windsor Campus.
By now, they have fully accustomed themselves to life and learning on campus as they’re often found studying away at the Dr. Murray O’Neil Medical Education Centre. Their class spirit and academic motivation is truly inspirational and they will serve as great mentors for future incoming students.
Another exciting “first” occurred during the Class of 2018 Council elections. For the first time ever, a Class President has been elected from the Windsor Campus. Michael Pignanelli was elected to lead and represent his classmates across both London and Windsor campuses.
This marks a monumental step forward as it’s an indication of unity within the Class of 2018 that will serve them well during their years at Schulich Medicine.
In October, students organized the annual Schulich’s Got Talent event at the Green Bean Café. This featured the many talents of students utilizing instrument playing, singing, dancing, storytelling and even magical acts by the great and mysterious “ZAndros”.
November brought forward an exhilarating Integration Weekend that welcomed students from London to Windsor. Students were reunited and enjoyed an evening of stellar performances by the Bands of the Classes of 2018, 2017 and the Windsor Band. Trips across the border to attend Detroit Redwings and Detroit Lions games were also compressed into this successful weekend.
Later in November, many students took part in a Pre-Med Symposium coordinated by Abdullah Nasser (Class of 2017) and Shiloh Ricciotti (Class of 2018). The Symposium provided numerous University of Windsor students interested in medicine with an opportunity to learn about the pathway to medical school. This was a great initiative by our students hoping to give back to undergraduate students as others have done for them in the past. Way to go.
December opened with the annual Windsor Program Holiday Party at the Ambassador Golf Club. Faculty, staff and students enjoyed a wonderful evening of unity and holiday spirit as the Windsor Band and numerous students provided musical and holiday storytelling entertainment.
As this month rolls on, the 2018s will welcome their first set of medical school exams and the 2015s will see their elective tour across the country come to an end. We wish them the best of luck.
As the semester comes to a close, I wish faculty, staff and students a safe and wonderful holiday break. May the season of giving bring everyone joy and happiness as another year comes upon us. Bring on 2015.
