Celebrating our achievements

Congratulations to Dr. Shannon Venance, who has been appointed as assistant-secretary with Committee on the Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) effective April 1, 2016. Dr. Venance has been the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) interim accreditation coordinator for Schulich Medicine & Dentistry since 2010, as well as the Faculty Lead for the last full accreditation at the School.

Faculty Development Mini Fellowships are career development grants of up to $5,000 designed so faculty members can take advantage of professional development opportunities to acquire new skills and knowledge. A limited number of competitive fellowships are available each year. Competitions are held semi-annually in the spring and fall. Congratulations to the following faculty members who were awarded a Spring 2016 Faculty Development Mini Fellowship:

  • Michele Barbeau, PhD, lecturer, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, was awarded $750 to attend a Living and Cadaver Based Ultrasound Anatomy for Educators and Sonographers workshop offered by the Society for Ultrasound in Medical Education in Norfolk, VA.
  • Dr. Cynthia Chan, assistant professor, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, was awarded $2,100 to attend the Advancing Safety for Patients in Residency Education (ASPIRE) program, offered by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Ottawa, ON.
  • Dr. Arlene MacDougall, assistant professor, Department of Psychiatry, was awarded $3,000 to complete the Ivey Influence & Persuasion Program offered by the Ivey Business School, Western University in Toronto, ON.
  • Sarah McLean, PhD, assistant professor, Departments of Physiology and Pharmacology and Anatomy and Cell Biology, was awarded $3,000 to attend the Women in Leadership program at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.
  • Dr. Patricia Van Boekel, adjunct professor, Departments of Medicine and Family Medicine, Schulich Medicine Huron-Perth Academy, was awarded $1,000 in support of the MSK Ultrasound course offered by Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic at Western University in London, ON.

Congratulations to Wataru Inoue, PhD, for receiving a New Investigator Fellowship from the Ontario Mental Health Foundation. With this grant, Inoue's lab aims to investigate the mechanisms of stress-induced neural plasticity. Read the full article.
