Celebrating our achievements

Congratulations to David Holdsworth, PhD, and his co-investigators from Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, Western University's Faculty of Engineering and the Bone & Joint Institute. They received $3.3 million to advance novel therapies for musculoskeletal disorders.

Congratulations to Maria Drangova, PhD, and Terry Peters, PhD, who bring an additional $1.8 million in funding to Western for their research in biomedical imaging.

Frank Prato, PhD, (working with collaborators at the Ottawa Heart Institute and Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto) was awarded $3.6 million to improve methods for early diagnosis and preventive care for heart disease.

Congratulations to Stephen Lomber, PhD, Penny MacDonald, PhD, and Patrick O’Donoghue, PhD, on receiving funding support for new research infrastructure, and to Cheryle Seguin, PhD, on receiving funding through the Early Researcher Awards program. Read more via Western News.

Ian Cunningham, PhD, has been named a Fellow of the Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists (COMP). This honour recognizes significant contributions to the field of medical physics, including research, professional practice and educational mentorship. Read more.

Congratulations to Catherine Nevin, MSc Candidate in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, who has been named among nine university scholar recipients of the Ontario Women's Health Scholars Award. Nevin's work centres on how to better predict which infants are at risk for cerebral palsy, attention deficit hyperactive disorder, autism and schizophrenia. Read more via Western News.

Congratulations to Dr. Susanne Schmid, associate professor, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. She has been appointed to the position of the Director of the Neuroscience Graduate Program at Western University effective July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2018. Read more.

Congratulations to Ravi Menon, PhD, who was selected as senior fellow by International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine for lifetime achievements in brain imaging research. Read more.

Congratulations to Radha Joseph, Medicine Class of 2017, on her first place finish at the Combined City Research Day in Hamilton. Radha's project "Medical Trainee's Experiences with Complex Patients" won the medical student category. Joseph also placed second in the poster contest at the Canadian Geriatrics Society's Annual Scientific Meeting in April. Read more.

Congratulations to Khadija Sheikh, PhD Candidate, for completing the Rock the Road 10k run on June 7 with a personal best time. The run supported Bethany's Hope Foundation. Sheikh is a former varsity track athlete, and is training for a half marathon in October.
