Congratulations to Melanie Katsivo, PhD. She was recognized during the International Week event for her role in founding and serving on the Steering Committee of Western Heads East. Dr. Julie McMullin, Vice-Provost International, presented Katsivo with a plaque on November 17, 2015.

Congratulations to the Fall 2015 Faculty Development Mini Fellowship recipients

Congratulations to Darren Cargill, Fabiana Crowley, Ekta Khemani, Danielle MacNeil, and Josee Paradis who are recipients of a Fall 2015 Faculty Development Mini Fellowship.

Faculty Development Mini Fellowships are career development grants of up to $5,000 designed so faculty members can take advantage of professional development opportunities to acquire new skills and knowledge. A limited number of competitive fellowships are available each year. Competitions are held semi-annually in the spring and fall.

Congratulations to the following faculty members who were awarded a Fall 2015 Faculty Development Mini Fellowship.

Dr. Darren Cargill, adjunct professor, Department of Family Medicine, was awarded $1,000 to complete a physician leadership development program.

Dr. Fabiana Crowley, assistant professor, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, was awarded $2,600 to complete a curriculum development and educational management and leadership program.

Dr. Ekta Khemani, assistant professor, Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, was awarded $3,050 to attend Six Sigma Green Belt Healthcare training at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Danielle MacNeil, lecturer, Department of Otolaryngology, was awarded $1,000 to attend the 2016 Master Class on Writing Research for Publication.

Dr. Josee Paradis, assistant professor, Department of Otolaryngology, was awarded $2,500 to attend the Stanford Clinical Teaching Facilitator Training Program.

Congratulations to the Fall 2015 Instruction Innovation & Development Fund recipients

Congratulations to Nicole Campbell, Candace Gibson, Christina McCord, Angela Nissen, Tom Stavraky, and Anita Woods who are recipients of Fall 2015 Instruction Innovation & Development Funds.

Instructional Innovation and Development Funds (IIDF) were established to foster and encourage development of technologically innovative methods for teaching which fulfill a current perceived need, and which can be immediately implemented. IIDFs are available to students and faculty who wish to develop innovative teaching materials, tools, or approaches to enhance or improve educational programs at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry.

Congratulations to the following faculty members who received Instruction Innovation & Development Funds:

Dr. Nicole Campbell, assistant professor, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology and Dr. Candace Gibson, associate professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and assistant dean, Basic Medical Sciences Undergraduate Education, received $6,600 to develop an interactive online laboratory notebook for interdisciplinary medical science students.

Dr. Christina McCord, assistant professor, Department of Pathology, received $12,406 to develop an oral pathology slidebox.

Dr. Angela Nissen, assistant professor, Tom Stavraky, lecturer, and Dr. Anita Woods, assistant professor, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, received $8,500 to develop a scenario-based statistics mobile app.

Congratulations to the award recipients at the annual Schulich Dentistry Fall Awards Reception on November 17: Dr. Mark Darling, Dr. Esperenza Bohorquez, Dr. Tarek Ek-Sayegh, Dr. Karl Cuddy, Jennifer Boogaards, Ziana Esmail, Jessica Gold, Po Cheng Lin, Amirsalar Mofidi, Kimberly Ngai, Nicole Ostro, Martin Reiss, Jaskaran Takhar, Fuad Tanha, Jennifer Archibald, Oies Hussein, Peter Kim, Vida Lam, Elizabeth Waknine, Sameen Abrar, David Feere, Carolyn Karr, David Omole and Sadia Tasleem.

Congratulations to Dr. Richard McLachlan. He is the 2015 recipient of the Canadian League Against Epilepsy’s Wilder Penfield Award. This award honours a CLAE member for outstanding lifetime clinical and/or research contributions in epilepsy and is considered the highest award given in Canada for epilepsy care.

Congratulations to Martin Duennwald, PhD, on his successful ALS Canada application. Duennwald will be leading a collaborative project examining RGNEF in relation to motor neuron misfolding in TDP-43 and FUS.
