The Future of Medical Education
Thursday, November 29, 2012
The Department of Family Medicine and the Southwestern Ontario Medical Education Network (SWOMEN) hosted the fourth annual Joint Teaching Retreat at the Best Western Plus Lamplighter Inn on November 2 and 3. More than 100 faculty, preceptors, staff and presenters attended the two-day conference, which kicked off with a networking luncheon, followed by the Family Medicine AGM and a SWOMEN meeting for specialist preceptors.
This year's theme was "The Future of Medical Education." The collaborative conference focussed on Schulich Medicine & Dentistry's Distributed Medical Education (DME) platform and new, emerging technologies in medical education.
Dr. Shamim Tejpar, Assistant Dean, Rural and Regional Medicine, and Dr. Stephen Wetmore, Chair/Chief of the Department of Family Medicine, welcomed delegates before Dr. Michael J. Strong, Dean, delivered an engaging keynote.
The agenda included a variety of workshops, including Media Relations for Physicians, Twitter 101, Supporting our DME Preceptors, Introduction of "Triple C" Curriculum for Family Medicine, and Health Care Simulation: Help making sense of the hype.
Friday evening included dinner and entertainment. "From Broadway to Jazz" offered an unforgettable evening of terrific songs, great stories and lots of laughs from London's favourite Jazz/Musical Theatre stylists Rick Kish and Natalie Howard-Grant. Backed by the Marque Smith Trio, Rick and Natalie delivered a fabulous collection of great show-stopping songs, humorous anecdotes and the world's best-loved jazz standards.
