What does the Young MC, hit song BustaMove, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry's Team Building and Community Outreach committee, Richard Simmons and breast health care have in common?
They are all ingredients to an exciting event taking place in London on April 6, 2013, called BustaMove for Breast Health. The Team Building and Community Outreach committee from the School is participating, and all proceeds will benefit breast health care at St. Joseph's Hospital. The School's team, Breast for Success, led by Dinah Frank, Department of Surgery, currently has 20 members, and they hope more people will join. With each new team member, the fundraising goal increases. Currently, more than $6,000 has been received toward the goal of $20,000.
So what's the event all about?
In the words of Young MC - "here's how it all breaks down".
It is a day- long team event where participants will undertake six hours of aerobics - everything from Zumba to Yoga, with the final hour led by fitness guru Richard Simmons. In between workout sessions, participants can refuel on snacks and drinks, get a massage, visit sponsor booths and take part in a myriad of fun contests.
In order to participate in the day, teams are required to raise an equivalent of $1,000 per team member. An online system for the event has been created to assist participants in creating a web page, sharing information with friends, and keeping track of fundraising activity.
The Breast for Success team is already getting geared up for the big event and have planned a number of team building and fundraising activities to help everyone achieve their goals.
