Bio Sketch
Shannon Venance, MD, PhD, FRCPC earned her PhD from Queen's University in 1993 and her MD from the University of Ottawa in 1997. Neurology residency training was completed at the University of Ottawa, followed by a Neuromuscular Fellowship at London Health Sciences Centre and muscle fellowship at the University of Rochester, NY.
Dr Venance joined the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University in 2004. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010 and to Professor in 2022. Her clinical expertise is in disorders of muscle, and she collaborates with a diverse group of health professionals in the investigation and management of individuals with muscle disorders. She received her certification as an electromyographer by the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists in 2003.
Dr. Venance is a highly engaged clinician teacher, teaching and learning through the spectrum of undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education. After recently leading the successful accreditation of the MD Program for Schulich Medicine, she is now serving as the Vice Dean, Medical Education for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. In this role, she oversees the School's strategic priorities for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Education portfolios within London, Windsor and the southwestern Ontario distributed education sites.
Research
Dr. Venance's scholarship has evolved with a greater focus on qualitative research with a focus on patients and learners.
