    2024 Blume-Girvin Lecture

    Each fall, the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, hosts The Blume-Girvin Lecture in Epilepsy, in recognition of the innovative efforts of its Epilepsy Program’s founders, Dr. Warren T. Blume, neurologist and epileptologist, and Dr. John P. Girvin, neurosurgeon and neurophysiologist. The Epilepsy Program at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University is pleased to announce that Dr. Nathalie Jette will present the 2024 Blume-Girvin Lecture in Epilepsy.

    On Tuesday, June 11th 2024, the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences will host its annual CNS Research Day. The full-day event features a series of poster and oral presentations from our residents, graduate students, PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows. We will also host a distinguished researcher who will present the keynote address. Attendees of the event are the Department’s faculty, including neurosurgeons, neurologists, affiliated radiologists, pathologists and imaging researchers.

    The Aitken Memorial Lecture Series

    The Aitken Memorial Lecture series was established in 1991 through an endowment from Drs. Ron and Elizabeth Aitken, anesthesiologists operating out of London, Ontario. It is held annualy by the Departments of Clinical Neurological Sciences and Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine. Traditionally, the invited speaker gives a talk at both Anesthesia Grand Rounds and CNS Grand Rounds. This year, we have cordially invited Dr. Ivar Mendez, the Professor Emeritus of Neurosurgery at the University of Saskatchewan, as our visiting Professor. Dr. Mendez is a highly regarded researcher and innovator in developing remote presence devices to deliver healthcare to underserviced populations.

    The Neurosurgery Rookie Camp was established eleven years ago with the primary objective of supporting new surgical trainees with their transition into residency. Training programs across Canada recognize the steep learning curve faced during the first year and the positive impact that attending this focused surgical course can have on preparing residents for the next six years. Every two years, a different Canadian university is selected to host the Neurosurgery Rookie Camp.

    Brainhack Western 2021

    The goal of the Brainhack Western 2021 is to bring together researchers and trainees with disparate backgrounds to collaborate on open science projects in neuroimaging and neuroscience. Brainhack projects are pitched on the first morning, and attendees will form into teams to work on these projects over the next three days. Tutorial sessions will be held concurrently for attendees to learn new skills as they work.
