MSc in Anatomy and Cell Biology, Clinical Anatomy

 

The application portal is open October 1 - January 15 each year. 

 

Admission Requirements

The Division of Clinical Anatomy will accept students who have a four-year B.Sc. degree, a M.Sc. degree, a Ph.D. degree, or a degree in Dentistry, Medicine, Veterinary Science or a health related field. The minimum standard for those holding a four-year B.Sc. degree is a 80% (A-) average in the last 2 years of undergraduate study or the most recent 10 full courses.

Recommended Pre-requisites

 A background in anatomy, histology and physiology is strongly recommended.

Application Procedure

Please note: The Department cannot pre-evaluate application documents (transcripts, etc.) prior to submitting a complete application through the SGPS application portal.  A complete application must be submitted with SGPS before the department has access to view it. It is the responsibility of each applicant to ensure they have submitted all application requirements.  Applicants do not need to match with a supervisors prior to program commencement.   Incomplete applications WILL NOT be assessed by the Graduate Affairs Committee.

Prior to applying, ensure you have the following documents/information ready:

1. Two Reference Letters. Referee responses should come from faculty who are familiar with your work. SGPS will contact your references directly via email. Applicants need to supply each referee's name and email address that is associated with the University they reside at. 

2. Application Fee 

3. Statement of Interest (maximum 2 pages in length). 

4. Academic CV

5. Official transcripts. Unofficial digital transcripts are OK for the purpose of submitting an application. Only students offered admission will be required to have their official transcript sent from the your previous University's Office of the Registrar to SGPS directly. 

6. English Language Proficiency (ELP) score (if required).

Application Deadlines:

Deadline for the MSc Anatomy and Cell Biology, Clinical Anatomy program - January 15 each year. 

***Applications received close to, or on the deadline, may not be approved in time for the desired start date. Space is limited in this program.

***International Students: The application deadline does not take into account the Government of Canada Student Visa/Study permit processing times. Please allow for approximately two terms prior to the start of the program to allow for processing.

Application Evaluations and Interviews:

All completed applications will be sent over from SGPS. At that time, applications will be made available to the Graduate Affairs Committee for review. Applicants that are selected for an interview will be contacted by the Program Coordinator - Interviews are usually held in March or April each year.

International Applicants

Our department encourages International applicants; However, the fees for non-resident students can be higher than Canadian or Permanent Resident students. Bursaries are available for international students to assist with tuition and living expenses. Bursaries are awarded on the basis of merit by the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) and SOGS. 

International applicants may require an English Language Proficiency (ELP) score. Please contact SGPS at gradapps@uwo.ca directly to see if you are eligible for an exemption. Our department requires a minimum score from one of the following: 

• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - 92, with no individual test below 20
• The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - 7 in any category

The Department requires that international students provide documentary evidence of adequate financial support for the duration of their studies

Program Requirements

The Master's in Anatomy and Cell Biology, Clinical Anatomy is a course-based program designed for students interested in teaching, medical education research and imaging. The program starts in September each year and runs for five terms, or 20 months. 

Year 1: Gross anatomy, histology, neuroanatomy, educational workshops, and group work from clinical seminars. The majority of year 1 is spent in the gross anatomy laboratory.

Students are required to do a research project that will be presented at the end of their fifth term, or second year. The projects are typically in the area of 3D reconstructions, testing educational online tools or developing these tools, traditional dissection research related to clinical issues (example: understanding variations for surgery, quantifying certain measurements used in surgery...)

There is no possibility for part-time studies.
