About Us

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology has a longstanding tradition of distinction in research and teaching. The success of Anatomy and Cell biology is predicated on its people, dedicated Faculty, Staff and Trainees who support our mission: excellence in research and scholarship in anatomy, cell biology, neuroscience and education.

The Department provides instruction to students in a variety of undergraduate and professional programs including Medicine, Dentistry, Health Sciences and the Bachelors of Medical Sciences Program. The quality of instruction provided is evidenced by the number of instructors who have won both local and national teaching awards, and by the high praise we get each year from our students.

Outstanding research in our department is built upon our Trainee program. The Anatomy & Cell Biology Program offers a modern collaborative training experience catering to the needs of the individual student pursuing an MSc or PhD degree. Our dedicated award-winning mentors and state-of-the-art facilities provide a rich training environment in which students can immerse themselves in one or more academic disciplines, including cell biology, neurobiology, anatomical sciences, and/or education scholarship.

Our Clinical Anatomy stream offers a unique training experience consisting of course work, research, and hands-on teaching experience; and is intended to prepare the next generation of medical educators and scholars. Students have the opportunity to develop into effective educators and researchers exceling in the development of creative new teaching tools and the education of medical, dental, and allied health science students.

The Biological Research stream is a research-intensive, thesis-based program designed to prepare students for a career as a research scientist in academia or industry. Students are given the opportunity to participate in ground-breaking research in important biomedical areas such as cancer, stem cells, stroke, addiction, schizophrenia, and more. If you have an interest in discovering something the world has never before seen, come and talk to us about research in Anatomy & Cell Biology!

The Department has a longstanding tradition of excellence in research and teaching, and provides instruction to students in a variety of undergraduate and professional programs including Medicine, Dentistry, Health Sciences, and the new Bachelor of Medical Sciences Program. Research

Multidisciplinary research is carried out in the Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology ranging from cell physiology to behavior. The department has a strong research program in Cell- and Neurobiology with state-of-the-art facilities for cell and molecular biology, cell imaging, in vitro and in vivo electrophysiology and behavioral testing of rodents.

The research spectrum within the Clinical Anatomy division is equally diverse both in the people involved and the hypotheses they investigate.  With clinical faculty and basic science faculty working together, unique research avenues are explored ranging from very in depth anatomical questions with clinical practice outcomes to pedagogic principles as it pertains to anatomical education and technical skills training.

Education

The Department provides education and research training at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Our graduate program provides intensive training in Cell and Developmental Biology, Neurobiology and Clinical Anatomy leading to both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. The undergraduate program offers modules leading to Minors and Majors in Anatomy and Cell Biology and an Honors Specialization in Biochemistry and Cell Biology.
