Announcement: Interim Chair/Chief, Psychiatry
The London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Care London and the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry are actively engaged in a search for a new Chair/Chief of Psychiatry. While that process is ongoing, and we look forward to a successful recruitment, there are pressing needs for the mental health populations we serve which have been clearly identified. In order to address these issues, and pending Board approval, we are undertaking a collaborative model to the interim leadership of the Department of Psychiatry which will include Dr. Sandra Northcott as Interim Chief of Psychiatry at St. Joseph’s and Drs. Sarah Jarmain and Bill Sischek as Interim Co-Chief’s at LHSC.
Drs. Sarah Jarmain and Sandra Northcott bring considerable physician leadership skill and administrative experience, in addition to the much needed Psychiatry professional content expertise required. Drs. Jarmain and Northcott will both continue to fulfill their current roles at St. Joseph’s Health Care as they take part in this interim leadership team. Dr. Bill Sischek has been invited to take an active role in our interim group, bringing previous operational change and optimization experience as a physician leader to the Department of Psychiatry. Drs. Northcott, Jarmain and Sischek, together with Dr. Raj Harricharan as Vice-Chair of Psychiatry until the Chair role is filled, will work collaboratively to ensure the optimal functioning of the Department of Psychiatry as a whole.
The leadership group looks forward to working with the physicians and staff members of the Mental Health teams as they address the operational issues challenging the Department of Psychiatry. A first priority will be to meet with the current leaders of the respective programs and services to learn from their experience and expertise, and work collectively to develop the structure and processes that will best support the clinical and departmental operations through this time of transition.
Please join us in welcoming Drs. Jarmain, Northcott, Sischek and Harricharan as they undertake the interim leadership of the Department of Psychiatry.
Thank you,
